Banana Flower/Vazhai Poo Poriyal


Ingredients
Banana flower/Vazhai poo-2cups
Moong dhal-1/4cup(optional)
Mustard-1/4tablespoon
Urad dhal-1/4tablespoon
Hing-a pinch
Onion-1/2
Curry leaves-few
Sambar powder-2tablespoon
Turmeric powder-a pinch
Salt-as required
Oil-2tablespoon

Method
  • Remove the bract in the banana flower and take the florets found underneath.
  • Remove the sring in the middle of the floret and rubber like skin too.
  • Finely chop the florets and wash it with curd/buttermilk to retain the color.
  • Add little water,turmeric to banana flower and cook until it is half done.
  • Drain the water from banana flower,add sambar powder,turmeric powder,mix it well.
  • Preesure cook moong dhal until soft(optional).
  • In a kadai,add oil,mustard,urad dhal,hing.
  • When it starts popping,add onion,curry leaves.
  • When onion gets transparent add the boiled banana flower,salt.
  • Cook until the florets becomes soft.
  • Mix with the boiled moong dhal(optional).
