Chow Chow Kootu(Chayote curry)



Ingredients
Chow Chow-1
Green Gram dhal(Pacha Payir)-1/2cup
Oil-2tablespoon
Onion-1
Sambar powder-1tablespoon
Turmeric powder-1/4tablespoon
Mustard-1/4tablespoon
Urad dhal-1/4tablespoon
Curry leaves-few
Hing-a pinch
Salt-as required


For Grinding
Cumin-1/4tablespoon
Coconut gratings-2tablespoon
Green chilli-2


Method
  • Peel the skin of chayote,cut into cubes.
  • Boil chayote with turmeric,sambar powder,hing until it the vegetable is cooked.
  • Boil green gram dhal in another vessel until it is cooked.
  • Grind cumin,green chilli,coconut gratings into fine paste.
  • In a kadai,pour oil,add mustard,urad dhal,curry leaves.
  • When it starts popping,add onion,when it turns brown, mix chow chow,grinded paste,green gram dhal.
  • Boil the mixture until it is fully cooked.
