
Ingredients
Toor dhal(Thuvaram paruppu)-50gm / 1/2 cup
Oil-2tablespoon
Sambar powder-1tablespoon
Turmeric powder-1/4 tablespoon
Mustard-few
Urad dhal(Ulunda parruppu)-few
Tamarind-small lemon size or Tamarind paste-1/2tablespoon
Drumstick(Murungaikai)-1
Tomato-1
Garlic-2
Curry laves-few
Hing(Perunkayam)-a pinch
Method
- Add 2cups of water to toor dhal and pressure cook or boil it along with garlic,turmeric powder,hing until soft.
- Chop the onion,tomatoes,drumstick.
- In a kadai,pour oil and add mustard,urad dhal when it starts popping add garlic,onion,curryleaves.
- When the onions become transparent add drumstick,tomatoes.
- Now add pinch of turmeric and sambar powder.
- Once the vegetable is half done add water as required,allow it to boil.
- When the vegetables are fully cooked add the boiled toor dhal.
- Add the tamarind juice,salt.
- Allow it to boil for another few minutes.Samabar is ready to serve.
Tips
Sambar can be made with Brinjal,Carrot,Potatoes,Raw mango(Mangai) too.
To make the process quicker and easier you can pressure cook adding all the ingredients together.
